Library Fines

Sometime, long before I remember, I checked out volume one of Steve Reich's Complete Works Box Set; A total of five CD's. At some point during my possession of this property of the Hennepin County Library, it decided that it would be better off on its own, out somewhere else besides in my hands. Soon afterward I forgot all about the box set.

Fines stacked upon more fines and eventually the ultimate fine was imposed, the one that meant I had to replace the lost materials.

Today, I found it and gave it a good talking to. After which, I convinced it to return to the library.

In my experience Librarians are ferocious, contrary to what most people believe about them being docile. Today, though, I met a nice one. I walked into the Mound library, prepared for the worst, with the CD's in my hand and approached the counter. My situation was this: I accumulated a fine of $110.60. The Librarian understood the situation and called her supervisor who then erased my fine. I handed the CD's over and left relieved.
